VCI Community and Online Support

People living with vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) and dementia, and their care partners, have found community and online support groups to be helpful in understanding their diagnosis and their journey. The following websites offer more information on where to find support.

  1. Alzheimer Society of Canada dementia programs and services

    • The Alzheimer Society of Canada provides support programs, educational resources, referral services and more to ease the burden of care and improve the quality of life for people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as their caregivers. Find links to local Alzheimer Society chapters on their website.

  2. Alzheimer Society of Calgary support

    • The Alzheimer Society of Calgary is under a different umbrella than the Alzheimer Society of Canada. For those living in Calgary, find information on local community resources and support groups on their website.

  3. Heart and Stroke community forums

    • Heart and Stroke offers online Facebook peer communities for both stroke survivors, and their care partners, where members can receive and give support. You can also sign up for Community Connect which is a newsletter that offers a way for you to stay aware of any news and engagement opportunities that may be of interest to you.

  4. March of Dimes Canada After Stroke program

    • After Stroke is a personalized recovery program offered by March of Dimes Canada that helps survivors and their families move forward after a stroke. They help connect you to compassionate support, educational opportunities, innovative programs, and real people who care – including stroke survivors who have been in your shoes.

  5. Dementia Alliance International

    • Dementia Alliance International supports people diagnosed with dementia, providing a unified global voice, and provides empowerment, advocacy, education, and peer to peer support.

  6. Rare dementia support Canada

    • Rare dementia support Canada provides a free information and support service for people living with, or affected by, a diagnosis of rarer or young onset dementia.

  7. Alzheimer’s Society dementia support forum

    • The Alzheimer’s Society is an organization out of the UK focused on improving lives for those living with dementia and their care partners. Join their international online community to share experiences with other people affected by dementia.

  8. ALZconnected

    • ALZConnected is a free online community designed for people living with dementia and those who care for them. Members can post questions about dementia-related issues, offer support, and create public and private groups around specific topics.
