White matter and cognition – opportunities for biomarker discovery
Dr. Whitehead is an Associate Professor in the Dept. Anatomy and Cell Biology at Western University. He is a neuroscientist with expertise in multi-modal imaging, including molecular imaging, preclinical animal model development and phenotyping, and biomarker development. Since his appointment to Western in 2013, Dr. Whitehead has published 60 peer reviewed articles in leading journals such as Stroke, Nature Rev. Neurology, Nature Neuroscience, JAMA Neurology and Alzheimer’s and Dementia. His research program has attracted funding from NSERC, CIHR, CCNA, Weston, Alzheimer’s Societies of Canada and UK, and other international agencies. He has trained more than 50 highly qualified personnel. Dr. Whitehead serves on Senate at Western University, is an Associate Director at the Western Institute for Neuroscience (WIN), is the Dept. Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, and serves on the Board of Directors and is the Vice President of the Albert Institute for White Matter and Cognition.
